Jazz performance sponsored by Art in Health Care
The Joe Willett Jazz Ensemble will perform from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 5, at The Grille Downstairs in University Hospital. The performance is sponsored by Art in Health Care.
Chocolate-covered strawberries for sale
University Hospital’s Service League Auxiliary will sell hand-dipped chocolate-covered strawberries on Valentine’s Day, Thursday, Feb. 14, in the hospital’s lobby. All funds from the sale and other auxiliary fundraisers benefit the hospital. Prepaid orders may be placed with Cherrel Rybolt, office support staff member, in room 2S-11 of the hospital beginning today, Tuesday, Feb. 5. Ash Wednesday Chapel service
An Ash Wednesday service will be held at noon Wednesday, Feb. 6, in University Hospital's Chapel. The chapel is located on the west end of the hospital's first floor in 1W-05. The Catholic Ministry Team will also distribute ashes to patients and staff at University Hospital's patient care areas prior to the service.

University Hospital to host blood drive
University Hospital will host an American Red Cross blood drive from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 12, in the hospital’s main lobby.

Blood drive at Columbia Regional Hospital
Columbia Regional Hospital will host a blood drive from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 6, at the Health Pavilion, Conference rooms 1, 2 and 3.
February 7
University Physicians-Smiley Lane grand opening
University Physicians-Smiley Lane will celebrate its grand opening with an open house from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 7, at 2325 Smiley Lane in Columbia, Mo.
The clinic is a brand-new facility located in north Columbia offering comprehensive care, from prenatal visits to adult family medicine. Practicing physicians at the Smiley Lane clinic include Mendi Hecker, M.D.; Peter Koopman, M.D.; Richelle Koopman, M.D.; and Carin Reust, M.D. Jonathan Thomas, M.D., will offer specialized obstetric and gynecologic care at the new facility. Valentine’s Day concert to benefit Children’s Hospital
Gainor and Friends will perform a concert to benefit Children’s Hospital on Valentine’s Day, Thursday, Feb. 14, at the Cherry Street Artisan Café, located at 111 S. Ninth St. in Columbia. Barry Gainor, M.D., an orthopaedic surgeon at University of Missouri Health Care, and his bluegrass band regularly perform to benefit Children’s Hospital. Medtique to open early for Valentine’s Day
University Hospital’s Medtique gift shop will open early Thursday, Feb. 14. Medtique will be open from 7:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. and will sell gifts including baskets, balloons, books, candy, flowers, lotions and spa accessories, and stuffed animals. In recognition of National Heart Month, the heart-care specialists at University of Missouri Health Care urge you to find out your risk of heart disease and how to prevent heart attacks at a free health screening Saturday, Feb. 16, 10:00 a.m. to noon at Macy's. More information

The Health Connection to provide cholesterol screenings

Heart of the Tiger
University of Missouri Health Care will team up with the MU Athletic Department for the Heart of the Tiger 2008 game on Sunday, Feb. 24. The MU women’s basketball team will play the University of Kansas at 1:30 p.m. in Mizzou Arena. A special half-time program will recognize cardiovascular disease survivors. One dollar from each ticket will go toward vital heart health-related research at University of Missouri Health Care. More information.
