Shuttle to transport staff from CG-1 to University Hospital
A shuttle to transport employees from CG-1 parking lot at Hospital Drive and College Avenue to University Hospital will begin its route Wednesday, Jan. 2. The route will be run from 6 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. on weekdays year-round. Three bus stops will be available, and two of the stops will have shelters. The route will be run at least five times per hour, approximately every 10 minutes. More information and map with shuttle-bus route.

Fit for Life employee orientation session
Employees can learn about Fit for Life’s employee wellness exercise program at a free orientation session at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 8, at University Hospital, Room GL-20. To use the Fit for Life facilities, employees are required to attend an orientation, sign a consent form and pay $20 per month. It is an unsupervised program that provides hospital employees a convenient place to exercise. For more information, please contact Fit for Life at (573) 882-4283.

The Health Connection Tai Chi classes
The Health Connection will offer Tai Chi classes, starting Monday, Jan. 14. The classes will be held from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. on Mondays through March 10. 2008 Pink Out gymnastics match to benefit cancer center
The University of Missouri vs. Iowa State University 2008 Pink Out gymnastics match is at 6:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 18, at the Hearnes Center. Tickets cost $5 for adults and $3 for children. One dollar from each ticket sold will be donated to Ellis Fischel Cancer Center for breast cancer research. Free T-shirts will be given to the first 500 attendees. Performances of Zink: the Myth, the Legend, the Zebra
Art in Health Care, a program of University of Missouri Health Care, and the MU School of Health Professions are among the sponsors joining with the local PACE children’s theatre group to present Zink: the Myth, the Legend, the Zebra. Performances are scheduled m for 7 p.m. on January 18 and 19 and 2 p.m. on January 20 in Jesse Hall Auditorium. Tickets are $7.
“Zink” is based on a story written by an 11-year-old leukemia victim and tells of a young girl named Becky who just wants to be accepted as she heroically fights cancer. Read more.

Columbia Regional Hospital ceremony to honor Martin Luther King, Jr.
Columbia Regional Hospital will host a ceremony in honor of Martin Luther King Jr. at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 22, in the hospital’s Health Pavilion conference center. The event is free and open to the public.
An a cappella choir from Hickman High School will perform, followed by a presentation of King’s speeches. Attendees will also receive an informational handout on King’s life and the role he played in the American civil rights movement.

“Healthier Living” classes begin
University Physicians-Green Meadows Family Medicine Clinic will offer a “Healthier Living: Managing Ongoing Health Conditions,” class beginning Friday, Jan. 25, 2008, at the Green Meadows Family Medicine Clinic, 3217 South Providence Road in Columbia. The six-week class will meet weekly from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. in the Green Meadows Family Medicine classroom and focus on helping participants with ongoing health conditions live a full and healthier life.
