Who are we?
Nursing Outreach and Distance Education (NODE) is the primary educational outreach arm of the MU Sinclair School of Nursing. For nearly 50 years, the fully accredited Nursing Outreach and Distance Education program has been a leader in providing high quality and affordable lifelong learning opportunities for Missouri’s registered nurses, regardless of their specialty, practice setting, affiliation, academic preparation or geographic location. Both alone, and in partnership with a number of organizations, the office provides face-to-face, Web-based and telecommunicated educational program for nurses and other health-care professionals throughout Missouri and beyond. Increasing numbers of non-nursing health care providers and out-of-state participants attend NODE activities.
Learning is more than listening to lectures. NODE uses the latest simulation technology to assist learners in sharpening their "hands-on" skills to remain clinically competent. Demonstration of a human simulator at the 16th Annual Nursing Educators Conference held in Columbia.
Who do we serve?
In 2008 we served nurses from 87 (76 percent) of Missouri’s 114 counties and the city of St. Louis attended continuing education (CE) programs sponsored by NODE.
In addition to NODE’s own educational activities, which attracted 1,725 nurses and other healthcare providers, NODE provided CE credit to another 1,194 nurses attending CE programs offered by the School of Medicine.
Many of NODE’s programs are multidisciplinary and are offered through cooperative relationships with such groups as the MU Health Care’s Center for Education and Development, MU School of Medicine Continuing Medical Education (CME), Office of Compliance and Quality, Missouri Institute of Mental Health, Center for Health Care Quality, Center for Health Policy, and Center for Health Ethics.
Consistent with the School of Nursing’s focus on rural health care, NODE serves a predominantly rural audience. Approximately nine out of every ten Missouri nurses who attend non-credit educational programs are from outside the metropolitan St. Louis and Kansas City areas. In addition to Missouri counties, NODE attracted participants from 10 other states.
