The Columbia School District has been selected as a model district by a National Governors Conference panel. The district has 18 elementary, three middle, three junior high, and three senior high schools; Columbia schools have earned an AAA rating, the highest in Missouri. And the city of Columbia provides youth leagues year-round in a wide range of sports, including soccer and football.

There are 3,000 acres of state park land in mid-Missouri, plus great places to hunt and fish. Columbia offers easy access to the Katy Trail, a hiking and biking trail that stretches across Missouri.

For those worried about straying too far from the conveniences of a large urban city, Columbia has enough retail diversity to keep an urbanite content. Examples of local stores include Macy’s, Old Navy, Gap, Dillard’s, Barnes & Noble, the large modern Columbia Mall, and several Starbucks. Smoking in public establishments is prohibited.

Restaurants in this college town are many and include Chili’s, Longhorn Steakhouse, Olive Garden, Outback Steakhouse, Chipotle Mexican Grill, and a number of fine locally-owned establishments such as the Cherry Street Wine Cellar and Bistro, CCs Broiler, Bangkok Gardens (authentic Thai), The Pasta Factory, Qs (fine Chinese), Sukara (fine Sushi), among many, many others.

Abundant, affordable housing, low cost of living, a stable economy, and a low crime rate make Columbia an attractive place to live.
