Comprehensive Rehabilitation Programs and Services
Missouri Rehabilitation Center is able to develop a long-range comprehensive plan for any patient needing inpatient rehab services. Programs include:
Stroke Rehabilitation Program
Spinal Cord Injury Program
Orthopedic Program
Debility Rehabilitation Program
Spinal Cord Injury Program
MRC accepts patients directly from intensive care units and aggressively starts rehab from day one. Patients are admitted with spinal cord injuries that have potential.
A dedicated physician who specializes in the medical and rehab management of patients with spinal cord injuries leads the Spinal Cord Injury Program. The team consists of a multidisciplinary team of rehab nurses, a case manager, social workers, pharmacist, physical, speech, language, pathology, occupational and recreational therapists. The team works to establish short-term and long-term goals designed to help patients regain their strength, endurance and functional independence.
MRC provides cardiac and pulmonary monitoring for the spinal cord injured patient. Ventilator management and weaning is an important aspect of the treatment.
Patients with spinal cord injuries receive training in wheelchair seating issues, which helps them avoid posture, skin and respiratory difficulties that may occur.
Alternative communication and adaptive equipment may be necessary as determined by an evaluation by staff from the Assistive Technology Assessment Center. Training is provided for patients and caregivers on acceptance of recommendations.
Orthopedic Program
The goal of this program is to help patients improve movement and function, prevent further injury and to promote optimal wellness and fitness. Patients treated in the orthopedic program may have one or more of the following conditions:
- Musculoskeletal diseases (arthritis)
- Orthopedic trauma (sprains, fractures)
- Reconstructive surgery (hip, knee or other joint replacement)
Patients learn about their ailment and their plan of care. Therapy modalities and techniques are used to decrease pain and inflammation and to restore normal alignment and function. Patients are taught proper body mechanics to use when lifting, carrying and reaching to prevent further injury.
Referral and Admissions
Our admissions team will provide medical pre-admission screening to ensure appropriate admission placement. The team will assist in making arrangements for a thorough evaluation upon arrival to MRC. Please don't hesitate to inquire about the availability of other needed accommodations to complete the admission process.
