Respiratory Care Services includes advanced ventilator care in our many ICUs, a Level 3 NICU, and pediatric ICU. We also provide pediatric/neonatal transport team coverage, Level 1 trauma center coverage, pulmonary diagnostic coverage, hyperbaric medicine support, and classroom/clinical training for our affiliated bachelor's degree respiratory care program. Beside routine oxygen and treatment therapy our therapies include:
- Arterial puncture and blood gas sampling & analysis
- Patient education
- Heliox therapy
- Inhaled Nitric oxide delivery (INO)
- High frequency oscillatory ventilation
- Mechanical ventilation delivery and management
- Code Blue coverage
- Pediatric/neonatal transport
- The Pulmonary Function Lab performs routine pulmonary function testing and assistance with bronchoscopy in the onsite Bronchoscopy Suite.
Respiratory Care at the University of Missouri Health Care is a global department that incorporates the University Hospital and Columbia Regional Hospital. Our global department provides respiratory care services 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and 365 days a year to all areas of the hospital including Medicine and Neuorosurgical Intensive Care Unit, Surgical and Burn Intensive Care Unit, Cardiac Intensive Care Unit, Pediatric Intensive Care Unit, and Level 3 Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, all intermediate care areas, Level 1 emergency department and operating rooms. Our transport team has a 30-year history of actively participating in pediatric and neonatal transports throughout the state with an average of 400-450 transports a year. We are an integral part of the helicopter and ambulance transport teams comprised of registered nurses, registered respiratory therapists, EMTs, and paramedics.
