Patient Opinion Matters
Rod Kelly Rod Kelly has undergone two kidney transplants and a pancreas transplant since being diagnosed with diabetes in 1972. He credits the physicians and nurses at University Hospital for helping him cope with his diabetes.
After his first transplant, Kelly began sharing his experiences with other kidney transplant patients. He speaks with nursing students at the University of Missouri Sinclair School of Nursing to remind them of their importance to patients and families during the recovery process.
Kelly is the assistant basket ball coach at Hickman High School and a 24-year employee of Columbia Public Schools. He serves as president of the Douglass Athletic Association, board member of the Columbia Youth Basketball Association and media relations coordinator for St. Paul's A.M.E. Church. For 15 years he was the voice of Tiger basketball as a radio color commentator for MU basketball games.
