COLUMBIA, Mo. — The 2010 Children’s Miracle Network Radiothon at University of Missouri Children’s Hospital will receive a big boost this year from Foresters™, a Toronto-based life insurance provider.
Representatives from Foresters will present a check in the amount of $50,000 to MU Children’s Hospital leaders at 4 p.m. Friday, Aug. 27, at Columbia Regional Hospital.
The donation represents the largest single gift in the four-year history of the Children’s Miracle Network Radiothon at MU Children’s Hospital. It comes as the result of Columbia, Mo., radio station Y107, a member of the Zimmer Radio Group, winning a national online voting campaign in February to determine “North America’s Most Caring Radio Station.”
“We are grateful to Foresters and the thousands of Children’s Hospital supporters who took the time to vote and propel us to victory in the contest,” said Timothy Fete, M.D., medical director of Children’s Hospital, chair of the MU School of Medicine’s Department of Child Health and Children’s Miracle Network Professor in Pediatrics. “The $50,000 donation will benefit our tiniest patients and allow us to buy life-saving equipment for Children’s Hospital’s neonatal intensive care unit.”
Every year Children’s Hospital teams up with Children’s Miracle Network, Zimmer Radio Group and Missouri Credit Union to host the “Miracles for Kids” radiothon to support the care of pediatric patients at MU Children’s Hospital. This year’s radiothon will be held from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday, Aug. 27, at Columbia Regional Hospital.
“All the money raised stays here in mid-Missouri to help local patients,” said Laura Gajda, executive director for advancement at MU Health Care. “The radiothon gives listeners an opportunity to learn about and support the miracles that happen at our hospital every day.”
For the first time, this year’s radiothon will be held at Columbia Regional Hospital – the future home of MU Children’s Hospital. Local radio stations 93.9-FM The Eagle, 94.3-FM KAT Country, 99.3-FM Clear 99 and 106.9-FM Y107 will broadcast live from the hospital.
