University of Missouri Health Care News Releases
Annual Gala To Benefit Ellis Fischel

COLUMBIA, Mo. ― The 16th annual Ellis Fischel Gala will be held Saturday, Aug. 25, at The Lodge of Four Seasons in Lake Ozark, Mo.

The gala will begin at 5 p.m. with a silent auction, followed by dinner and entertainment by The Midtown Men, four stars from the original cast of Broadway’s “Jersey Boys.”

Proceeds from this year’s event will help fund cancer research and a healing garden in the new Ellis Fischel Cancer Center, set to open in University Hospital’s new patient care tower in spring 2013. The gala has raised money through the years for research, equipment and infrastructure that benefit cancer patients.

“Since 1997, this gala has been the largest fundraising endeavor for Ellis Fischel,” said Paul Dale, M.D., the Margaret Proctor Mulligan Distinguished Professor in Medical Research and chief of surgical oncology of Ellis Fischel Cancer Center. “More than $1 million has been raised through this annual event, and that money directly benefits our patients, who come from every county in the state of Missouri.”

Ellis Fischel Cancer Center offers patients with all types of cancers a comprehensive health team and innovative diagnostic and treatment options. Ellis Fischel is also a key investigational center for the study of the effectiveness of a variety of cancer treatments, including such breakthrough drugs as tamoxifen.
