University of Missouri Health Care News Releases
University Hospital Named To American Heart/Stroke Association Honor Roll

COLUMBIA, Mo. — University Hospital has been named to the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association’s 2012 Target: Stroke Honor Roll.

“We are very proud of being named to this prestigious list for a second time,” said Niranjan Singh, M.D., a neurologist and director of University Hospital’s stroke program. “It recognizes our commitment and achievement in providing a higher standard of care for our ischemic stroke patients.”

Target: Stroke is a national quality campaign designed to improve outcomes for ischemic or clot-related stroke patients. The goal of the program is to help hospitals achieve clot-busting medication delivery times of 60 minutes or less to patients after they arrive at the hospital.

To treat stroke patients, University Hospital uses a multidisciplinary team from several different departments including neurology, neurosurgery, physical therapy, cardiology and emergency services.

“I am proud of all the physicians and staff responsible for achieving this honor,” said Pradeep Sahota, M.D., chair of the medical school’s Department of Neurology and director of MU Health Care’s sleep disorders program. “Having been named to this list for two years in a row is an honor for the Missouri Stroke Program at University Hospital.”

University Hospital’s stroke program has also been recently certified as an advanced primary stroke center by the Joint Commission and has received its second Stroke Gold Plus Performance Achievement Award from Get With The Guidelines®, a hospital-based quality improvement program developed by the American Heart Association and the American Stroke Association.
