MU Health System to Sponsor Free Skin Cancer Screenings, Community Activities at Missouri State Fair

COLUMBIA, Mo. — University of Missouri Health Care and the MU School of Medicine will sponsor several community health events at the Missouri State Fair this year, including free skin cancer screenings of exposed skin from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday, Aug. 12. MU Health Care staff and physicians also will be available during the fair to provide information and education about:

  • Automobile safety by Frank L. Mitchell Jr., M.D., Trauma Center staff and organ transplantation by Midwest Transplant Network staff from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 8
  • Injury prevention by Frank L. Mitchell Jr., M.D., Trauma Center staff from 9 a.m. to noon Friday, Aug. 9
  • Distracted driving prevention by the Staff for Life Helicopter Service from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and organ transplantation by Midwest Transplant Network staff from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 10
  • Organ transplantation by Midwest Transplant Network staff from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. and medical research by MU School of Medicine staff from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday, Aug. 12
  • Organ transplantation by Midwest Transplant Network staff from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. and geriatric health and tobacco cessation by family and community medicine staff from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 13
  • Automobile safety by Frank L. Mitchell Jr., M.D., Trauma Center staff from 1 to 4 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 14
  • Skin health by dermatology staff from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.; children’s physical and occupational therapy by MU Children’s Hospital staff from 9 a.m. to noon; and Ellis Fischel Cancer Center and Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 15
  • Children’s physical and occupational therapy by MU Children’s Hospital staff from 9 a.m. to noon, and Ellis Fischel Cancer Center and Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, Aug. 16
  • Children’s poison prevention, youth tobacco prevention and colorectal cancer prevention by Missouri Digestive Health Center staff from 9 a.m. to noon Friday, Aug. 17

All the events will take place at MU Health Care’s booth in the Mizzou Central area of the MO-Ag Theatre, located near the fair’s Centennial Entrance.
