Ortho: Trauma
Should I put anything on my incision?
We do not want you to put ointment (Neosporin, etc.) on anything until your incisions/wounds are completely healed. Applying ointment on incisions or pin sites creates a perfect breeding ground for bacteria (wet, dark covered with dressing, warm) and inhibits drainage. The other problem with ointments is that it hides problems. We always will comment if we see ointments being used.

Once your incision is completely healed, we will tell you that you can start using vitamin E lotion to help decrease scar formation.
