MO HealthNet
MO HealthNet (Medicaid) provides health care access to low income individuals that are elderly, disabled, members of families with dependent children, low-income children, uninsured children, pregnant women, refugees, or children in state custody.
How can I apply for MO HealthNet?
- Online at http://dss.mo.gov/mhk/appl.htm
- At your Family Support Division (FSD) County office
- When you are admitted, a member of the financial counseling staff can assist you with the application.
When will I know if I am approved?
You will receive a letter from the Department of Social Services letting you know if you are eligible or not. It is very important to turn in all verification documentation requested by the caseworker within the required time frame.
Please note that when applying for MO HealthNet (Medicaid) disability, you will be required to apply for social security disability too.
Social Security Disability
Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) provides aid to people who are unable to achieve gainful employment due to a permanent disabling condition. Individuals who believe that they qualify for social security disability can get disability benefits by submitting an initial application for disability benefits:
Medicare
Medicare is health insurance for:
- People 65 or older
- People under 65 with certain disabilities
- People of any age with end-stage renal disease (ESRD) (permanent kidney failure requiring dialysis or a kidney transplant)
Medicare Part A (hospital insurance) - Helps cover inpatient care in hospitals, skilled nursing facilities, hospice, and home health care.
Medicare Part B (medical insurance) - Helps cover doctors' and other health care providers' services, outpatient care, durable medical equipment, and home health care. Helps cover some preventive services. (Most people pay a monthly Medicare Part B premium.)
Note: If you have limited income and resources, you may qualify for help paying your Medicare Part B and/or prescription drug coverage costs. You can apply for help at your county FSD office. If you have Medicare questions you can call 1-800-MEDICARE (1-800-633-4227).
Missouri Health Insurance Pool
The Missouri Health Insurance Pool (MHIP) provides comprehensive medical and prescription drug coverage to Missourians who can't get individual insurance because of health conditions, exhaustion of COBRA benefits, or other lack of availability. It also provides insurance to people with preexisting conditions who have been without coverage for six months or longer. For more information visit: http://www.mhip.org.
