Patient Information

You probably have many questions about our hospital and the services we offer. This page is intended to provide answers to many of your basic questions.

Please let us know your thoughts and feelings. We encourage you to present additional questions to our staff members to help make your stay as pleasant as possible. A positive attitude will help ensure maximum recovery.

Personal belongings
Please remember to bring all necessary personal care items such as eyeglasses, hearing aids, cosmetics and toiletries.

You also will need a week's supply of comfortable clothing:

  • Loose-fitting shirts or blouses
  • Loose-fitting pants or shorts
  • Sturdy, low-heeled shoes or tennis shoes
  • Undergarments and socks
  • Nightgown or pajamas
  • Robe
  • Sweater

Please leave jewelry and other valuables at home. Laundry services are available.

Your room is provided with a bulletin board on which you may display cards, pictures and other items to help you adjust to your new environment. Furniture and personal decorations, especially electrical appliances, must be approved by the fire and safety specialist.

A registered dietitian works closely with your doctor to determine your nutritional needs, and your meals are planned accordingly. You will be visited by the dietary staff after admission.

If you are currently taking medications at home, your doctor will probably ask you to bring them with you so he or she can review them prior to sending them back home with your family. Otherwise, you should not allow anyone to bring you medicine from outside the hospital. Medications will be given to you by a member of the nursing staff when ordered by your doctor.

Communication aids
TDDs (telephone aids) are available for hearing-impaired patients, and TTYs (teletypewriters) are available for deaf patients. Sign language interpreters and other interpreters are available. To arrange for these services, please contact your nurse.

Visitor and family information
Visiting hours for the medical units are 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., daily. Visiting hours for the rehab units are 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday, Sunday and holidays. Visitors are encouraged to come in the evenings and on weekends to prevent interruptions to therapy sessions. Family caregivers are encouraged to participate in the rehabilitation process.

Phone calls should be received or made in the evenings or on weekends to prevent interruptions to therapy sessions. To place a phone call to a patient, call 1-866-900-5663 + patient's room number.

Mail, packages and flowers
Mail, packages and flowers are delivered to patients Monday through Friday, except on holidays.

Mail should be addressed as follows:
"Patient's full name"
Missouri Rehabilitation Center
600 N. Main St., Mt. Vernon, MO 65712

Internet access
Send email messages to patients. Patient internet access is not available at this time. Under special circumstances, patients may sign up and be placed on a waiting list for possible internet access. When access becomes available, the patient must pay the cost for a local internet service provider and would be limited to usage from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m.

Patients are happier when they have spending money to make purchases in our gift shop or at community activities. (Twenty dollars per month is recommended for spending money, but not required.)

Frequent and thorough hand washing
Frequent and thorough hand washing is practiced by staff members to reduce germs to a patient. We ask all visitors to also comply with this good health practice.

Other services

Worship services are held at 2:00 p.m. every Sunday in the chapel. The chapel is open weekdays during office hours and for the Sunday service. If you wish to see a minister of your faith, please dial 0 and ask the hospital operator to page the chaplain.

Apple Hill Gift Shop is operated by the MRC Auxiliary. When you shop at the gift shop, your purchases are tax-free and all proceeds directly benefit patient care. Hours are 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.

A Cafeteria is available on the main floor serving breakfast, lunch and dinner every day.

Smoking is prohibited throughout the hospital and on the grounds.

Cell phones must be turned off prior to entering patient areas of the hospital to prevent the malfunction of sensitive equipment.

Family Involvement
We encourage family involvement in your treatment. Family members can give moral support and observe therapy sessions. We may ask to have a conference with your family to talk about your goals, the progress you've made, and your plans for discharge.

Comment boxes
We're asking for your compliments or complaints so we can measure our progress toward delivering the difference in excellent care for our patients. Comment boxes and information kiosks are located throughout the hospital.
