Evidence Based Practice
Interested in investigating the latest research? Join our Evidence-Based Nursing Practice group. Through a partnership with the University of Missouri School of Nursing, our nurses learn first rate research skills and are mentored in developing projects to incorporate the latest evidence into practice. Our projects have been featured at national Evidence-Based Practice conferences and we are proud to foster the continued discovery of best practices to improve our patient care. Some examples of projects include:
- Algorithm to manage gastric residuals to improve nutrition in the ICU
- Comparison of sterile versus non-sterile gloves for dressing changes of open surgical wounds
- Mucositis treatment and development of an oral assessment tool
- To Chill or Not To Chill - treatment of fever in adults
With the emphasis on evidenced-based practice in health care, nurses at Unviersity of Missouri Health Care are more aware of the importance of searching for evidence on which to base their clinical decisions. With the resources provided by J. Otto Lottes Health Services Library and the Advanced-Practice nurses on site, our nursing staff are learning to make patient care decisions using available research findings combined with their own clinical expertise and the patient preferences. Every nurse has access to the latest journal articles, periodicals, books and publications, many of which can be researched electronically through our on-line service provided by the library.
