The Eurocopter BK 117 was originally put into service at University Hospital in 1992. This aircraft provides several unique features that are not readily available in other airframes and is the work horse for The Staff for Life Helicopter Service. It has the ability to carry specialty teams and equipment such as neonatal isolettes and a balloon pump. The BK 117 also has the ability to lift patients who weigh up to 400 pounds and have a girth of up to 60 inches.

| The Staff for Life Helicopter Service also operates two Eurocopter AS350s or ASTARs. The ASTAR has a long history of use in the air medical field and provides rapid transport of patients from our outlying areas in the state. |
