Ronald McDonald House Charities of Mid-Missouri provides a home-away-from-home for families of seriously ill or injured children. It also supports local organizations that benefit children and their families.The Ronald McDonald House in Columbia was opened in 1983 and serves between 800 and 900 families per year from Missouri, the United States and the world. Families that reside outside of Boone County who have an ill child in a Columbia-area medical facility are eligible to stay at the Ronald McDonald House. The house has:
All of this is offered to families for a small nightly fee, however no one is ever turned away due to an inability to pay. In September 1999 RMHC expanded it services and opened the Ronald McDonald House Family Room in Children's Hospital. For families of children receiving treatment at area medical facilities, the Ronald McDonald House serves as a home-away-from-home. Other families of hospitalized children are able to find an area of respite within the walls of their child's hospital by retreating into a Ronald McDonald Family Room. Thousands of families come to Columbia each year for specialized treatment for their children.
