University of Missouri Health Care’s Stroke Program recognizes staff members who demonstrate excellence in caring for stroke patients. Anyone can nominate a staff member for the award, and any staff member who has contact with stroke patients is eligible for the award.

Nominate a Staff Member

Help us recognize staff members who have demonstrated excellence in caring for stroke patients. These individuals may have demonstrated:

  • Communicating with compassion toward patients and families.
  • Collaborating positively with the team in caring for the stroke patient.
  • Providing high-quality stroke care.
  • Displaying excellent teamwork.
  • Providing high-quality education for patients, families or staff members.
  • Communicating calmly during high-stress situations.

The stroke committee will review nominations monthly and select one recipient every month.

Award recipients will be honored with breakfast and have their pictures taken and shared in MU Health Today. Award winners also will receive a brain pin and a traveling trophy to display in their work areas.

Stroke Support Group

This support group is open to all survivors, meetings are intended to:

  • Discuss topics of interest
  • Offer education and advice
  • Provide encouragement and emotional support
  • Allow networking opportunities
  • Organize community based stroke awareness events

Neuroscience Awards and Accreditations


The Missouri Stroke Program has been certified as an Advanced Primary Stroke Center by The Joint Commission.       

In 2015, the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services designated the Missouri Stroke Program as one of the state’s first Level I Missouri State Time Critical Diagnosis Centers, the highest recognition a hospital can receive for its stroke program.

The Missouri Stroke Program has received the Stroke Gold Plus Performance Achievement Award from Get With The Guidelines®, a hospital-based quality improvement program developed by the American Heart Association and the American Stroke Association.

The Missouri Stroke Program has also been named to the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association’s Target: Stroke Honor Roll.


The Missouri Epilepsy Program is recognized by the National Association of Epilepsy Center as a Level 4 epilepsy center.
