Graduation to honor future health care leaders

University of Missouri Health Care will honor its fifth graduating class from the Tomorrow’s Health Care Elite program during a ceremony at 6 p.m. Thursday, December 13, at the Donald W. Reynolds Alumni Center on the University of Missouri campus.

This year’s graduating class includes 15 local high school students. Each student was selected from a competitive applicant pool and was required to complete 30 volunteer hours at University Hospital.

“Our goal with this program is to identify, cultivate and motivate future health care leaders,” said Jim Ross, chief executive officer of University of Missouri Health Care. “The time and energy these students have dedicated to this program gives them valuable experience as they consider a career in health care.”

The Tomorrow’s Health Care Elite program was developed by University of Missouri Health Care. High school students attend seven class sessions and work with trained professionals in areas such as emergency services, radiology, surgery services and nursing.

The class encourages hands-on training outside a classroom setting. Students are able to experience first-hand the many facets of health care, including witnessing a day in life of patient, tracking allied health professionals, physicians and nurses, and visiting the pharmacy, lab and Ellis Fischel Cancer Center.
