The Howard A. Rusk Rehabilitation Center will celebrate the University of Missouri Columbia Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation’s 45th anniversary and Rusk Rehabilitation Center’s 10th anniversary during a special commemoration event May 18.

All current and former patients, their families, and employees are invited to attend a reception from 2 to 4 p.m. Friday, May 18, in the dining room of Rusk Rehabilitation Center, 315 Business Loop 70 W., Columbia, Mo.

Those interested in attending are asked to R.S.V.P. to (573) 817-4672.

“These two milestone events mark a significant accomplishment in the history of Rusk Rehabilitation Center,” said Gary Payne, chief executive officer of Rusk Rehabilitation Center.  “As the only freestanding acute rehabilitation hospital in central Missouri, we strive to provide the most comprehensive rehabilitation care possible and look forward to serving the patient needs in the future.”

The state-of-the-art, 60-bed rehabilitation hospital opened in 1997 through a joint-partnership between HealthSouth Corp. and University of Missouri Health Care. The center provides specialized treatment for brain injury, stroke, arthritis, spinal cord injury, chronic pain and industrial injury.

“The partnership between HealthSouth Corp. and University of Missouri Health Care has allowed us to continue to provide quality rehabilitation care and expand on our research and educational goals,” said Greg Worsowicz, M.D., chair of the MU Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and medical director of Rusk Rehabilitation Center.
