Forum to focus on racial, ethnic health disparities
The University of Missouri Center for Health Policy will sponsor a public forum on racial and ethnic health disparities from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 16, at the Donald W. Reynolds Alumni Center, Columns Rooms D and E, on the MU campus.
According to a recent study by the Institute of Medicine of the National Academies, access to health care is elusive for many Americans, especially within minority populations.
“The purpose of the forum is to share ideas, resources and strategies for implementing high quality healthcare to racial and ethnic minorities and other underserved populations,” said Karen Edison, MD, co-director of the MU Center for Health Policy.
The forum will also address social and economic issues that can determine overall health.
Speakers for the event will include Edison; Kris Hagglund, PhD, co-director of the MU Center for Health Policy; Will Ross, MD, associate dean for diversity at Washington University’s School of Medicine in St. Louis; Adewale Troutman, MD, MPH, director of Louisville Metro Public Health & Wellness and professor at the University of Louisville School of Public Health, in Louisville, Ky.; and Jeff Milyo, PhD, professor of economics at University of Missouri in Columbia, Mo.
Funding for this project was provided by the Missouri Foundation for Health. The Missouri Foundation for Health is a philanthropic organization whose vision is to improve the health of the people in the communities it serves.
