Safe Kids Discovery Day Set for June 8 at Children's Hospital

COLUMBIA, Mo. ― University of Missouri Children’s Hospital will hold Safe Kids Discovery Day from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday, June 8, in the MU Women’s and Children’s Hospital Health Pavilion parking lot at 404 Keene St. In case of inclement weather, the event will be moved indoors into the hospital’s conference center.

The carnival-style event is free and will feature live stage acts throughout the day. Several booths at the event will offer tips on injury prevention and child safety. Children will also have an opportunity to explore a fire truck and prizes will be raffled hourly. Free hotdogs, chips, snow cones and popcorn will also be available to participants.

“Unintentional injury is the leading cause of death for children nationwide,” said Michele Imes, injury prevention and safety outreach coordinator at MU Children’s Hospital. “The goal of this event is to interact with children and their families to educate and encourage healthy habits.”
