Ellis Fischel Cancer Center Partners with American Cancer Society to Host Enrollment Event for Cancer Prevention Study

COLUMBIA, Mo. - Ellis Fischel Cancer Center will host an enrollment event for the American Cancer Society Cancer Prevention Study-3 (CPS-3) from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 10, in Room 2008 at Ellis Fischel's new facility at University Hospital, One Hospital Drive.

"Previous studies confirmed the link between cigarette smoking and lung cancer and showed the considerable effect of air pollution on heart and lung conditions," said David Parker, executive director of Ellis Fischel Cancer Center. "This study has the potential to shed light on new lifestyle, environmental and genetic factors that cause cancer, and we are honored to serve as the area's enrollment site for the study."
To be eligible to enroll in CPS-3, men and women should:

  • be between 30 and 65 years old
  • have no personal history of cancer, except for basal or squamous cell skin cancer
  • be willing to make a long-term commitment to the study, involving the completion of periodic follow-up questionnaires

Enrollment in the study involves two steps. After scheduling an appointment, participants will be asked to complete a comprehensive survey online that asks for information on lifestyle, behavioral and other factors related to their health. The second step involves a 20- to 30-minute in-person enrollment interview in which participants are asked to sign an informed consent form, complete a brief survey, and provide a waist circumference measurement and a blood sample. Participants will receive periodic follow-up surveys, which will ask for factors related to their health.

Appointments are required for study enrollment. To schedule a CPS-3 enrollment appointment, please visit or call (888) 604-5888.
