MU Children's Hospital Youth Garden Promotes Health, Education

COLUMBIA, Mo. ― The Injury Prevention and Safety Outreach Program at MU Children’s Hospital is sponsoring its second annual youth community garden from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, April 27, at Children’s Hospital, 404 N. Keene St.

“The primary goal of the garden is to provide a place where education and health unite to help us build strong and healthy children throughout our community,” said Michele Imes, coordinator for the Injury Prevention and Safety Outreach Program at MU Children’s Hospital. “Our hope is to continue this garden – and the opportunities it presents us with teaching children about healthy diet choices – for years to come.”

Members of MU Children’s Hospital, the MU Agriculture Department, MU students, The Columbia Garden Club, The Home Depot and local Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts of America will assist in planting vegetables in the garden, located behind Women’s and Children’s Hospital, on the southeast corner.
