MU Children's Hospital to Host Cystic Fibrosis Education Day
COLUMBIA, Mo. - University of Missouri Children's Hospital will host Cystic Fibrosis Education Day for caregivers of persons affected by the disease from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Saturday, March 8, at the Hilton Garden Inn in Columbia. Attendance is free, but registration is required by Friday, Feb. 21.
Sponsored by the Children's Hospital Cystic Fibrosis Center, the event will feature a panel discussion, "Cystic Fibrosis on the Go." Attendees may also join one of three breakout discussions:
- "Not Just Lungs/The Big Picture"
- "Successful Transition to Adulthood"
- "Understanding Pulmonary Function Tests and Imaging"
The keynote speech will be delivered by Jill Conner, M.S., R.C.E.P., a registered clinical exercise physiologist from Tulsa, Okla. Conner was diagnosed with cystic fibrosis at 3 years old and underwent a double lung transplant at age 22. She will talk about exercise and living with cystic fibrosis.
James Acton, M.D., and Zarah Ner, M.D., pediatric pulmonologists at MU Health Care, will also make presentations. Acton serves as director of the Division of Pulmonary Medicine, Cystic Fibrosis and Allergy at the MU School of Medicine and as an associate professor of child health. He also serves as director of the Children's Hospital Cystic Fibrosis Center and medical director of pediatric respiratory care.
Ner serves as an assistant professor of child health at the MU School of Medicine and director of the Children's Sleep Lab.
