19th Annual Gala to Benefit Ellis Fischel Cancer Center

COLUMBIA, Mo. (Aug. 24, 2015) ― The 19th annual Ellis Fischel Gala will be held Saturday, Aug. 29, at The Lodge of Four Seasons at the Lake of the Ozarks.

The gala will begin at 5 p.m. with a silent auction, followed by dinner and entertainment by the Company Men, a group of musicians whose performances combine timeless music from the past six decades with today’s hits.

Proceeds from this year’s event will help support the purchase of equipment to detect mutations in tumor tissue and blood. The technology will assist researchers in improving treatment options for patients with blood cancers, including lymphoma, leukemia and myeloma. A portion of the funds also will support Ellis Fischel’s wig program.

“We’re very thankful for the community’s support of Ellis Fischel through this event,” said David Parker, executive director of Ellis Fischel Cancer Center. “Countless lives across the state have been touched by Ellis Fischel, and that wouldn’t be possible without the generosity of the community and the support of the gala committee and the Brown family.”

Since 1997, the gala has raised more than $1.6 million toward research, medical equipment and infrastructure that benefit cancer patients, including the Ernest and Eugenia Wyatt Guest House, a mobile screening vehicle offering mammography and prostate screening services, and the Ellis Fischel Gala and the Brown Family Healing Garden, an outdoor green space for patients.

Ellis Fischel Cancer Center, a part of University of Missouri Health Care, is a certified member of The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Network®. Ellis Fischel Cancer Center offers patients with all types of cancers a comprehensive health team and innovative diagnostic and treatment options.
