Community Calendar: Ellis Fischel to Offer Free Skin Cancer Screenings

What: As part of National Skin Cancer Detection and Prevention Month in May, Ellis Fischel Cancer Center will offer free skin cancer screenings. Each screening will include a physical examination of a person’s exposed skin, including face, neck, arms and hands. The screening process is painless and takes less than five minutes. The screenings will be performed by skin specialists from the University of Missouri School of Medicine’s Department of Dermatology.

Why: According to the American Cancer Society, nearly 1,700 new cases of melanoma are expected to be diagnosed in Missourians in 2017. Skin cancer is the most common form of cancer in the United States. However, most cases are preventable.

Who: Screenings are available for men and women ages 18 and older.

When: 3 to 6 p.m. Thursday, May 11

Where: First floor of Ellis Fischel Cancer Center, One Hospital Drive
