Columbia Offers Country’s Only Go Girl Run Full Marathon
MU Women’s and Children’s Hospital, along with the MU Dermatology and Skin Surgery Center, is sponsoring Ultramax Sports’ Go Girl Run Columbia at 7 a.m. Saturday, May 21, at Flat Branch Park, 101 S. Fourth St. — near the intersection of Cherry and Fourth streets.
The Columbia event features the first and only Go Girl Run full marathon, and it marks Columbia’s only all-female full and half marathon.
The race also includes a 5K run/walk open to both men and women that begins at 7:15 a.m.
Ultramax Sports is anticipating 1,500 participants in this year’s races, with many of the runners coming from out of town to take part in the marathon.
The marathon and half-marathon courses go through downtown Columbia, the University of Missouri campus, an historic southwest Columbia subdivision and the Katy Trail, with participants returning to Flat Branch Park for the finish. The course includes rolling hills that end at mile 15. Aid stations will be located every one-and-a-half to two miles on the marathon and half-marathon course. Each aid station will have water, hydration mix, carbohydrate energy gel and minor first aid.
This is a USA Track and Field sanctioned race, and race participants will receive an athletic T-shirt, medals, post-race food, free race photos and other giveaways from the sponsors. The event also includes pre-race warm-ups from Mizzou Therapy Services starting at 6:45 a.m. and a race-day expo at Flat Branch Park, including informational booths sponsored by MU Health Care.
The Go Girl Run is organized by Ultramax Sports and is an effort to improve the lives of women. It is designed to be a celebration of friendship and sisterhood. Every detail of this event is planned with the woman in mind.
The 2016 Go Girl Run Columbia helps support Children’s Miracle Network. All the funds raised in Columbia stay at MU Children’s Hospital.
