Community Calendar: 14th Annual Jay Dix Race to Support Research at Ellis Fischel Cancer Center

What: The Columbia Multisport Club will host the 14th annual Jay Dix Challenge to Cure race to benefit local cancer research at Ellis Fischel Cancer Center. The family-friendly event includes a 5K walk or run and a 10K run. Race participants will receive an athletic T-shirt and a free pancake breakfast after the race.

During the past 13 years, the event has raised more than $186,000 for local cancer research. The race was established in memory of Jay Dix, M.D., a University of Missouri Health Care pathologist who fought his own battle with cancer. Dix served as the medical examiner for Boone and Callaway counties, and was a member of several medical and research organizations. He also enjoyed competing as a triathlete.

8:30 a.m. Saturday, May 7

The race starts at Fourth and Cherry streets in Columbia’s Flat Branch Park.
