Community Calendar: Ellis Fischel to Offer Free Head, Neck, Oral or Thyroid Cancer Screenings
WHAT: Ellis Fischel Cancer Center will offer free head, neck, oral or thyroid cancer screenings for men and women ages 18 and older. The screenings will be conducted by members of University of Missouri Health Care’s oral, head and neck cancer and thyroid/parathyroid multidisciplinary teams.
A head, neck and oral cancer screening includes a physical examination of the patient’s mouth, face and neck by an Ellis Fischel head and neck cancer provider. A thyroid screening includes an ultrasound of the thyroid by an endocrinologist at Ellis Fischel. The screenings are painless and take approximately 10 to 15 minutes.
WHY: According to the American Society of Clinical Oncology, head and neck cancer accounts for about 3 percent of all cancers in the United States. More than 63,000 people develop head and neck cancer each year.
WHO: The screenings are available to men and women ages 18 and older.
WHEN: 1 to 4 p.m. Friday, April 14
WHERE: The second floor of Ellis Fischel Cancer Center, One Hospital Drive in Columbia
