Community Calendar: Free Luncheon to Discuss Breast Cancer Risks, Research
Ellis Fischel Cancer Center, in partnership with the University of Missouri Sinclair School of Nursing and the Mid-Missouri Breast Cancer Awareness Group, invites breast cancer patients, survivors and their loved ones to a free breast cancer survivor luncheon. The event will include presentations on the familial risks of breast cancer, research on the increased risk of colorectal cancer associated with breast cancer and a smartphone app for lymphedema screening.
Attendees will receive a free lunch and a chance at door prizes.
The luncheon is open to all breast cancer patients, survivors and their loved ones.
Speakers and discussion topics at the event will include:
- Stacey Miller, certified genetic counselor at Ellis Fischel Cancer Center: “Breast Cancer and Genetics: The Inside Story”
- Sherri Homan, RN, FNP, PhD, epidemiologist at the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services: “Colorectal Cancer Risk and Preventive Practices for Breast Cancer Survivors”
- Guilherme DeSouza, PhD, associate professor at the MU College of Engineering: “Lymphoedema — A Mobile Device for Lymphedema Screening and Monitoring”
