Ellis Fischel 'Mammothon' Offers After-Hours Screenings
COLUMBIA, Mo. — To give women an opportunity to receive a potentially life-saving mammogram at a time that’s convenient for them, Ellis Fischel Cancer Center is hosting a “mammothon” breast cancer screening event. The after-hours event will take place from 6 to 10 p.m. Friday, Nov. 7, at Ellis Fischel Cancer Center, located at One Hospital Drive in Columbia.
“Our goal is to detect breast cancer in its earliest stages, when it’s most treatable,” said Mark Travis, M.D., a radiologist with University of Missouri Health Care. “Our use of digital and 3-D mammography allows us to catch breast cancer even before a lump can be felt through a self-exam.”
Ellis Fischel Cancer Center’s breast health program is the only breast center in central Missouri accredited by the American College of Surgeons’ National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers, demonstrating Ellis Fischel’s commitment to breast cancer screening, treatment, research and community outreach.
To receive a mammogram, women must be age 40 or older or have a doctor’s order. In addition to breast screenings, staff at the mammothon will provide information and education about breast cancer, as well as refreshments and door prizes. Mammograms will be available by appointment only. For more information or to make an appointment, please call Ellis Fischel Cancer Center at (573) 882-8511.
