MU Children's Hospital Gala to Benefit Babies in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit
COLUMBIA, Mo. — MU Children’s Hospital will hold a gala to raise funds for the hospital’s neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) on Thursday, Nov. 20, at the MU Reynolds Alumni Center.
The gala, “An Evening in Wonderland,” will begin at 6 p.m. with a cocktail reception, followed by dinner at 7 p.m. and an after-party event. The after-party, “Wonderland After Dark,” begins at 9 p.m. at Bleu Restaurant and Wine Bar in Columbia. Tickets for each event can be purchased separately.
When completed in December, the expanded NICU will include 10 additional beds, bringing the total number of beds to 48. It will include 20 single-patient rooms, two lactation areas, a family infant room, mobile X-ray storage and a lab.
“In addition to the added beds, the NICU renovations will allow parents to be with their babies in a more comfortable and private space,” said Keri Simon, executive director of MU Women’s and Children’s Hospital. “It will allow us to create a more patient-and-family-centered environment, helping us deliver the best care and experience possible. All of the space will promote the participation of the family in the baby’s care and transition to home.”
Specialists in the NICU at MU Children’s Hospital care for more than 500 premature and critically ill infants each year, helping more babies to survive at early gestational ages. Since the NICU at MU Children’s Hospital was established in 1971, more than 22,000 babies have been cared for in the unit.
