MU Children’s Hospital Unveils Safe Kids Mobile Education Unit

University of Missouri Children’s Hospital today unveiled its new Safe Kids Mobile Education Unit. This van will be used to provide resources and education to families within the Safe Kids Columbia region, including Audrain, Boone, Callaway, Cole, Cooper and Howard counties.

“The Safe Kids Mobile Education Unit will go to camps, bike rodeos and other community events over the summer,” said Sheila Robertson, Safe Kids Columbia coordinator. “The van gives us the ability to bring safety information and injury prevention tips to people in their own communities.”

Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield of Missouri funded the purchase of the $25,000 Safe Kids Mobile Education Unit.

“We are pleased to support MU Health Care’s efforts to go directly to the community to offer safety presentations to children and parents,” said Steve Martenet, president of Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Missouri.

The Safe Kids Mobile Education Unit was unveiled during the fifth annual Safe Kids Day in the MU Hearnes Center Fieldhouse today.

Safe Kids Day is a free carnival-style family event sponsored by MU Children’s Hospital. It includes booths with tips on injury prevention, sports safety and vehicle safety, live stage acts performed throughout the day; and free bike helmet and fittings for the first 50 children who attended.
