Naqvi Named Associate Chief Medical Officer of MU Health Care

S. Hasan Naqvi, MD, an associate professor of clinical medicine at the University of Missouri School of Medicine and a hospitalist at MU Health Care, has been named associate chief medical officer, effective Sept. 19, 2016.

As associate chief medical officer, Naqvi will be responsible for providing physician leadership for inpatient and outpatient care. He will engage and partner with clinical and educational leaders to streamline and improve coordination of care.

“Dr. Naqvi has a proven history of leadership and quality improvement and will bring a unique perspective to our health system in his new role,” said Stevan Whitt, MD, chief medical officer of MU Health Care. “His experience as a leader, educator, researcher and patient advocate makes him ideally suited to foster a continued environment of patient-centered care.”

Naqvi currently serves as director of the Division of Hospital Medicine at the MU School of Medicine.

From 2010 to 2013, Naqvi served as medical director of the Department of Hospital Medicine at Columbus Regional Health in Georgia. He earned his medical degree at Punjab University’s Allama Iqbal Medical College in Lahore, Pakistan, and completed his residency at Lutheran Medical Center in Brooklyn, New York. He is board-certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine.

Naqvi has received several honors at MU, including the Quality Improvement Champion Award in 2014 and 2015, the Outstanding Faculty Teacher Award in 2014 and the Most Outstanding Clinical Educator Award in 2014. Naqvi serves as a member of the Society of Hospital Medicine and the American College of Physicians. An author of more than 20 peer-reviewed articles and book chapters, his research interests include post-operative care and the transition of care for hospitalized patients.
