Pediatric Urgent Care Moves Within MU Women’s and Children’s Hospital

New location is next to the Pediatric and Adolescent Specialty Clinic

For Susan Renoe, a Columbia mother of three, the Pediatric Urgent Care at MU Children’s Hospital is her first choice for after-hours care. Renoe’s children — ages 7, 9 and 10 — have all visited the Pediatric Urgent Care clinic for various illnesses and injuries.

“My daughter had an injury after hours, and after she was treated, she didn’t want to leave,” Renoe said. “Our children still talk about her visit, from the special rooms decorated for kids, to the friendly nurses and staff, to the cartoons, books and popsicles that helped put them at ease.”

The Pediatric Urgent Care clinic has moved from its location near the emergency department at MU Women’s and Children’s Hospital to a spot next to the Pediatric and Adolescent Specialty Clinic, also at Women’s and Children’s Hospital, 404 N. Keene St.

Pediatric Urgent Care offers a specially trained pediatrician to treat children. It is the only urgent care clinic in mid-Missouri staffed by pediatricians who are board-certified and specially trained to treat children from newborns through age 18. Pediatricians at the clinic treat conditions such as ear infections, strep throat, flu-like symptoms, mild asthma attacks, non-severe bleeding, sprains, rashes or minor cuts and burns.

“It’s really nice to have a doctor who specializes in kids — not just kids’ medicine, but in children themselves — because all kids are different,” Renoe said. “In all of our experiences, it hasn’t just been about finding out what’s wrong or how to fix the injury. The doctor works to understand each child and finds the best way to keep them calm, and so they can help my kids get better.”

Pediatric Urgent Care is designed to complement care offered by the child’s pediatrician or primary care physician by providing services when those doctors’ offices are typically closed.

Pediatric Urgent Care is open from 5 to 9 p.m. Monday through Friday and noon through 6 p.m. on Saturdays, Sundays and holidays. It is closed Thanksgiving day and Christmas day.
