Safe Kids Discovery Day Set for June 14 at Children's Hospital
COLUMBIA, Mo. - University of Missouri Children's Hospital will hold its third annual Safe Kids Discovery Day from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday, June 14, in the MU Women's and Children's Hospital Health Pavilion parking lot at 404 Keene St. In case of inclement weather, the event will be moved indoors into the hospital's conference center.
The carnival-style event is free and will feature live stage acts throughout the day. Several booths at the event will offer tips on injury prevention and child safety. Children also will have an opportunity to explore a fire truck and prizes will be raffled, including season passes to Six Flags St. Louis, summer memberships to Macher Aquatic Center and more. Free hot dogs, chips, snow cones and popcorn also will be available to participants.
"Unintentional injury remains the leading cause of death for children nationwide," said Sheila Robertson, injury prevention and safety outreach coordinator at MU Children's Hospital. "Safe Kids Discovery Day is a time to interact with children and their families to educate them on safety and encourage healthy habits."
