Resident Research and Scholarly Activity
The University of Missouri Health Care OB/GYN residency program provides comprehensive support for participation in resident research and scholarly activity. Opportunities to participate in clinical, surgical, and educational research abound. In 2007-2008, four residents published peer-reviewed publications and five presented their work at national meetings. If you are interested in pursuing a fellowship or simply more interested in mechanisms of disease, our six research faculty members share over 2,000 square feet of wet lab space that is available to support select bench research projects.

Postdoc Jennifer Luth, PhD teaches chief resident Erin Tuller, MD how to extract RNA from endometrial cancers to evaluate haptoglobin expression. Dr. Tuller began a fellowship in gynecologic oncology at the University of Oklahoma in 2007.
Research faculty members and their general areas of interest:
- Kathy L. Sharpe-Timms, PhD, HCLD: Endometriosis, endometrial cancer, metalloproteinases, haptoglobin.
- Susan C. Nagel, PhD: Environmental estrogens, birth defects, endometriosis.
- Gary F. Clark, PhD: Maternal-fetal immune tolerance; glycobiology; HIV, immune privilege of human cancers, sperm-egg binding.
- Danny J. Schust, MD: Recurrent pregnancy loss, in vitro fertilization, placentation, maternal-fetal immune tolerance.
- Breton F. Barrier, MD: Maternal-fetal immune tolerance, ovarian cancer pathogenesis, HLA-G, primate models, surgical educational research, minimally invasive surgery research (NOTES).
- Ray Foster, MD: Urinary incontinence, pelvic organ prolapse, primate models.
