While the University of Missouri Health Care and University Physicians will bill most health insurance companies as a service for our patients, it is the patient’s responsibility to see that the account is paid in full. The filing of claims with third-party carriers in no way relieves the patient of this obligation. We will not submit claims to insurance companies outside the United States.
If you have commercial insurance or governmental coverage, such as Medicare and Medicaid, we will submit a claim on your behalf to your insurance company. After receiving the claim, the insurance company may contact you for additional information. Please respond to your insurance company’s questions as quickly as possible so your payment is not delayed. Click here for more information on patient billing.
We ask our patients to check with their insurance company to make sure our facility and physicians are contracted with their health insurance company (In-network). We also ask our patients to verify their benefits with their insurance plan. Be sure to ask about any non-covered services and out-of pocket-expenses that will be your share of the cost.
Our staff does not have access to benefit information specific to your plan and coverage so we will not be able to provide you with those details at your appointment. Some health insurance plans may have exclusions or require you to see specific providers, depending on your type of treatment.
On the day of your appointment, please bring your:
- Photo ID
- Insurance card(s) for all plans you have active coverage with, including a Medicare supplement
- Payment, such as a copayment or deductible
When you arrive at one of our locations, you will begin the check-in process. Representatives will verify your insurance information, scan a copy of your insurance card(s) into our system and make any updates so charges for services can be billed.
Once the charges have been entered into our billing system, we will then submit the claims to your insurance company for payment. During this time, you will not receive a billing statement from either University of Missouri Health Care or University Physicians. Once our billing office receives payment from your insurance company, we will review your account to determine your share of the cost, if any, for the services provided.
If it shows that you will owe a portion of the charges, we will then send you a billing statement for the balance due at that time. For questions about our billing system, please visit Patient Billing.
