The University
Physicians Team
When you
visit a University Physician clinic, your health-care team may include
a number of different types of providers.
Attending physicians
They are faculty members of the University of Missouri-Columbia School
of Medicine.
Resident physicians
These licensed physicians have completed four years of medical school
and now are specializing in a specific field of medicine. As part of
a primary care physician's team, resident physicians can serve as a
patient's personal physician, working closely with attending physicians.
Nurse practitioners
These health-care providers have obtained a master's degree in advanced
nursing and are certified as nurse practitioners by the national certifying
agency. They work closely with physicians and can meet many of your
health-care needs. Often, patients request to see a nurse practitioner
for many of their primary health-care needs.
Registered nurses and licensed practical nurses
They have degrees in nursing and also may provide you with care.
Medical students
With your permission, students may be part of your health-care team
working under the direction of a resident physician and an attending
physician.
