Our team of heart care specialists offers comprehensive care for patients who suffer from valvular heart disease. The Heart Valve Clinic includes a multidisciplinary team of cardiologists, cardiothoracic surgeons, nursing staff and additional health care specialists who provide care and their expertise to patients. These experts are able to test and assess if the patient is a possible candidate for transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR).
MU Heart Valve Team
Our overall goal on the heart valve team is to give each patient and family the best experience while providing optimal care for the patient’s heart.
Our collaborative, multidisciplinary heart valve team is located at University Hospital. Our outpatient team includes interventional cardiologists, cardiothoracic surgeons, clinical nurse specialists and a nurse coordinator. Our surgical and cardiology specialist physicians offer a range of experience and backgrounds. We are able to deliver exceptional communication and care to the patient, family and referring physician through our nurse coordinator. The nurse coordinator interacts extensively with each patient and family to ensure all questions and concerns have been addressed.
We think of referring physicians as part of our team and endeavor to communicate and coordinate care with referring physicians.
Our nurse coordinator can answer any questions regarding referrals or patient consultations. Many tests that are useful for diagnosis and pre-treatment of valvular abnormalities can be performed at the patient’s local facility and we can help to coordinate these for the patient and referring provider.
