Your safety and success at weight loss is our singular goal at Missouri Bariatric Services. To qualify for surgery with our program, all of the following must be met:
Body Mass Index (BMI)
At a minimum, to qualify as a weight loss surgery candidate a patient must possess at least a BMI of 40 or greater, or a BMI of 35 or greater with high risk health conditions such as diabetes, high blood pressure and others.
If you have a BMI greater than 60, surgery may not be a safe option. At your first patient appointment, we will discuss ways to decrease your BMI to levels safe for surgery.

Are you ready for change?
One of the great misperceptions about weight loss surgery is that somehow it makes weight loss easy the rest of your life. That is wrong. Weight loss surgery requires dramatic lifelong changes to lifestyle, dietary habits, exercise and a commitment to medical follow up and compliance. Missouri Bariatric Services will be working with you on your journey, but only you can fully commit to the changes that will be required after surgery.
Completing the seminar is just the beginning of the intense education that comes with weight loss surgery. To succeed at long term weight loss, all of our patients must be fully informed about the surgery, what to expect during and after the surgery. Our patients enjoy many of our shared office classes which take place before surgery and at intervals after surgery at 1 week, 1 month, 3 months and yearly. These classes provide the "User manual" for your surgery in an environment where you can share your story with other patients going through the same journey.
In order to prepare to perform our surgical procedures, the multi-disciplinary team of Missouri Bariatric Services conducts extensive testing to ensure that you are both medically and psychologically stable. We are 100% committed to your safety.
Please note that each individual insurance policy may contain additional requirements for surgery qualifications. Please call the number on the back of your insurance card to determine what specific requirement your insurance company may additionally require.
