Art by childrenCase four: Jasmina

This 13-year-old girl is a refugee from Banjaluka. She and her mother were in a concentration camp for several months. Her father was taken away by the aggressors; they haven't heard from him since.

Soon after the attack on Banjaluka, Jasmina and some other children were thrown together by a soldier and used as a human shield to advance toward the front line. Many children were wounded. Jasmina does not know how many were killed.

"I was sure I was going to get killed," Jasmina says. "I still have nightmares about it. I feel so empty. Sometimes I feel I am not alive. I am just there."
