Burn Nursing Scholarship Fund

The James and Elizabeth Kraatz Undergraduate Burn Nursing Scholarship Fund, established by Dr. and Mrs. Kraatz in 2005, provides financial support for the education of a student nurse at the University of Missouri Sinclair School of Nursing. Academically eligible students must express an interest in pursuing burn and wound care as a specialty.

Although there is a shortage of nurses in general, the shortage of nurses with special expertise in burn and wound care is especially acute. The Kraatz scholarship endeavors to address that shortage by helping to make the pursuit of a baccalaureate degree in nursing financially attainable for qualified students.

Burn Nursing Scholars are allowed to take part in the full spectrum of activities at the Peak Burn Center, including patient care, education, survivorship support, clinical research and participation in professional conferences. Burn care is a team effort, burn care clinicians are crucial members of that team, and good training for the next generation of burn care clinicians is vital.

To contribute to the Burn Nursing Scholarship Fund and to the education of a student nurse, please contact Tracy Feller, development director at the MU Sinclair School of Nursing, fellert@missouri.edu, 573-884-0421, S219 MU School of Nursing, Columbia, MO 65211.
