Kohl's donation supports Children's Hospital and Safe Kids Columbia
Motor vehicle accidents are the No. 1 killer of children 14 and younger, and Safe Kids Columbia strives to prevent childhood injury through safety events and car seat safety checks. Through a generous donation from the Kohl’s Cares for Kids Program, Safe Kids Columbia and Children’s Hospital can further educate and ensure better automobile safety practices among Missouri children.
The Kohl’s Cares for Kids program will present a $15,506.58 check to Donna Otto, Safe Kids Columbia president, during Safe Kids Columbia’s recruitment and appreciation breakfast at 8 a.m., Monday, July 30, at Columbia Regional Hospital’s Conference Center, 404 Keene Street in Columbia.
Safe Kids Columbia provides low-cost safety equipment such as child safety seats and bike helmets, and promotes legislation that will improve child safety laws and regulations. The Kohl’s Cares for Kids grant will fund childhood injury prevention events and educational materials.
“We’re grateful Kohl’s has recognized the outreach efforts of our organization to prevent childhood injuries,” said Lezlie Dahlke R.N., Safe Kids Columbia coordinator and trauma outreach coordinator at University of Missouri Health Care. “This generous donation will assist Safe Kids Columbia in providing life-saving information to children.”
“Kohl’s introduced the Kohl’s Cares for Kids ® program to promote children’s health and educational opportunities, and is committed to playing an active role in the communities we serve,”
said Julie Gardner, senior vice president and chief marketing officer for Kohl’s Department Stores.
“We’re proud of the partnerships we’ve created with children’s hospitals across the country, and are excited to join Safe Kids Columbia in this endeavor.”
Kohl’s commitment to MU’s Children’s Hospital is made possible through the Kohl’s Cares for Kids ® program, which raises funds for children’s health and educational opportunities through the sale of special gift items. Net profits from the sales go to support children’s health and educational opportunities in the market areas served by Kohl’s. Kohl’s community outreach also includes Kohl’s Kids Who Care ®, an annual youth volunteer recognition program, fund-raising gift cards for local schools and nonprofit youth groups, as well as an associate program to encourage volunteerism.
Based in Menomonee Falls, WI, Kohl’s is a family-focused, value-oriented specialty department store offering moderately priced, exclusive and national brand apparel, shoes, accessories, beauty and home products.
