University Hospital Pharmacists Named Pharmacist of the Year, Garrison Award Winner

The Missouri Society of Health-System Pharmacists (MSHP) has recognized two University Hospital pharmacists with distinguished honors. Joseph A. Cameron III has been named the organization’s 2008 Pharmacist of the Year, and Edward Ege has been selected as the MSHP Research and Education 2008 Garrison Award winner.

The pair will be honored at the April 25 annual meeting of the Missouri and Kansas Societies of Health-System Pharmacists in Overland Park, Kan.

Cameron serves as the pharmacy residency coordinator at University Hospital, where he has worked since 2004. Cameron is board-certified in pharmacotherapy and has served as intensive care unit residency preceptor and instructor for the University of Missouri-Kansas City Pharmacy School Satellite Program at the University of Missouri School of Health Professions.

Ege has worked at University of Missouri Health Care since 1991. He serves as director of the pharmacy residency program, director of the pharmacy dosing service and director of the pharmacist anticoagulation service. Ege is active in pharmacy research and serves as an adjunct professor for the UMKC School of Pharmacy.

The Pharmacist of the Year Award is given annually to a MSHP member who displays a high level of integrity, ethical conduct and professionalism. The recipient must also make a significant contribution affecting the practice of health-system pharmacy throughout the state.

The Garrison Award is presented annually by the MSHP Research and Education Foundation to a MSHP member who demonstrates outstanding accomplishment in practice in health system pharmacy. The recipient contributes to the advancement of the pharmacy profession through research and education initiatives.

The Missouri Society of Health-System Pharmacists provides education, leadership and advocacy to support more than 450 members in helping people make the best use of medications.
