University Hospital recognized as a fit-friendly company The American Heart Association will recognize University Hospital as one of its Fit-Friendly Companies during a ceremony planned for 11:45 a.m. Wednesday, May 28, in the main lobby of University Hospital. The Fit-Friendly award acknowledges University Hospital's commitment to employee health and fitness. University Hospital offers workplace health benefits such as health screenings, a tobacco-free campus, smoking cessation classes, the Fit-for-Life employee wellness exercise program, Weight Watchers at Work, health risk assessments and access to walking trails around Columbia. University Hospital is also an accredited chest pain center of excellence and a primary sponsor of the American Heart Association's annual Columbia Heart Walk. "We are honored that the American Heart Association is recognizing University Hospital as a Fit-Friendly Company," said Anita Larsen, RN, interim chief operating officer and chief nurse executive for University of Missouri Health Care. "With the vision and support of our CEO Jim Ross and hospital leadership, we are proud to invest in our workforce. We are creating a culture of health and fitness at University Hospital and all of our health care facilities by establishing a number of wellness programs aimed at improving the health of our employees." The American Heart Association's Start! Fit-Friendly Companies Recognition program calls for employers to encourage workplace wellness and create a work environment conducive to physical activity, specifically walking. University Hospital and Clinics, a part of the University of Missouri Health Care system, serves patients from every county in Missouri.
