Resident Rotations
The first year (R-1 year) includes twelve one month rotations on the following clinical services:
Orthopaedic Surgery, Neurological Surgery, Vascular Surgery, Adult Reconstruction, Emergency, Plastic Surgery, Anesthesiology, Trauma, General Surgery, ICU/Burn.
During the R2, R3, R4 and R5 years, each resident spends eight months at University Hospital and four months at the Harry S. Truman Veterans Administration Hospital. The VA hospital is across the street from University Hospital, a location that facilitates clinical and educational activities. The rotations at University Hospital are designed to provide exposure and education in all aspects of trauma, adult reconstruction, and pediatric orthopaedics.
A significant benefit of living in Columbia is the proximity of safe and comfortable residential areas to the University, and the cultural and recreational activities of the adjacent University of Missouri campus. This factor, we think, enhances the educational process.
Vacation
Orthopaedic residents receive two weeks of vacation annually during the R1 year and four weeks of vacation annually during the R2-R5 years.
