Our well-funded research in
the Department of PM&R at the University of Missouri
- Columbia totals nearly $8 million and encompasses a wide
range of scientific inquiry. Faculty, physician residents,
postdoctoral fellows, and research staff interact with a
number of scientists in several disciplines including exercise
physiology, veterinary medicine, rheumatology, psychology
and journalism.

University of Missouri —

We hold two research and training grants (MARRTC
and HARRTC) that fund scholarly activity at every level
of inquiry – literally from “the bench to the
bedside”. In these centers, our trainees have the
opportunity to explore and research arthritis and its impact
on health and function (MARRTC), while others work in the
laboratory of NIH-funded mentors studying physiologic and
molecular aspects of health and exercise (HARRTC).
Our department collaborates with the Department
of Health Psychology on the long-standing model system center
(MOMSCIS) that focuses on patients with spinal cord injury
and emerging new treatments. Other collaborative efforts
include research in muscular dystrophy, exercise and aging,
and use of a novel “autoambulator” – designed
to help restore walking function in patients. Scientists
from across campus and across the nation recognize the department
as an innovative front-runner in rehabilitation research.
We hope that you explore what we have to offer.
