Specialty Therapy

We offer many advanced and specialized therapy services, including sports medicine therapies, DARI Motion Analysis and Tiger's on Track - Pediatric Wellness as well as:

Aquatic Therapy

Aquatic therapy is currently provided at Rusk Rehabilitation Center by our experienced therapists.  Aquatic therapy allows for an additional realm that therapy can be provided to your child.  Performing therapy in the water allows for your child to move more freely, facilitating increased range of motion.  The water also serves as resistance, assisting in strengthening.  While in the water, your child's balance and equilibrium responses are also challenged.  Sensory impairments may also be improved through the use of water.   If your child experiences pain with activity, the water may allow for pain-free movement.  Our therapists will determine if your child is a candidate for aquatic therapy.

Hand Therapy and Splinting

A certified hand therapist is a physical or occupational therapist who has had 4,000 or more hours of direct practice in hand therapy, in addition to at least 5 years of clinical experience.  Hand therapist work with the upper limb, which includes your fingers, hand, wrist, elbow and shoulder.  Several techniques, including splinting, are used to restore you back to your maximum potential and prevent further dysfunction.

Hand splints are utilized to position your child's hand in an optimal position, rather it be to hold their hand open, or to facilitate increased range of motion in their wrist or fingers.  Each splint is custom made by one of our occupational therapists, who along with your child's physician will determine which type of splint your child would benefit most from.  Splints can be made to last until your child grows out of them, or in a gradual process based on your child's needs.  After your splint is constructed, you will be provided a daily wearing schedule that will be of the most benefit to your child.
